What is PQ?
The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space presents the best in scenography since it began 60 years ago. It has gradually evolved from a festival into a platform exploring progressive approaches, new media, virtual spaces, and interdisciplinary relations. Artworks from dozens of countries and hundreds of artists are presented within the scope of projects curated by an international PQ team and the main competitive exhibitions. The 16th edition will take place June 8-17th, 2027 at the Prague Exhibition Grounds. The theme is Absences and Silences as spaces of potential for new scenographic futures.

Focusing on the Maritimes
The Maritime artistic community has a distinct ecosystem. We want to help Maritime communities cultivate their growing worldviews, ways of life, values, and identities, drawing influence beyond Toronto, Alberta, and BC. We aim to bring an enriching program to students and young professionals, primarily from the Maple League of Universities, NSCAD, and students from NSCC. By sending bright minds beyond, they can then return with new energy, ideas, focus, and a sense of belonging in the global community.

What makes this exciting for Students
Students are often expected far too soon to know who they are, what their artistic practice is, and which communities they represent or serve. The convenient timing of the summer PQ allows graduating students to find their footing with the ideas that will further challenge, inspire, and guide them into their personal artistic practices. In Prague, they will witness other young artists endeavour to make their mark on the world stage. They will encounter the hot topic discussions being held globally and in scenography. Innovations in sustainability. The sheer amount of creativity and lived experiences at PQ offers young Maritimers an enormous toolkit of ideas to take home, that couldn’t have been found in Central/Western Canada.

Why we love PQ
We liked the social opportunities of walking up to keynote speakers, hosting a networking dinner, volunteering, and speaking to the artists who went to the closing ceremony. The exhibitions and performances were an astounding sensory feast. We liked how innovative artists were in actively engaging with participants despite enduring COVID restrictions. We loved the vibrancy and passion all around us. And then there is the city of Prague; its rhythms, museums, public transit, and history. And hearing a language other than English in the background.
Come join with us as partners
We’re excited to have more partners join us for the journey. Please contact us (info@creativedive.ca) for more details.
We’re here for you
We’re extending a unique opportunity to 15 – 35 emerging creatives for a curated stay in Prague for the international Prague Quadrennial in June of 2027. This is a chance for emerging and established Canadians to immerse themselves in the vibrant international community, fostering growth and creativity among our group and creating memorable experiences you can take back with you. As Canadians, creators, travellers, and inclusive leaders, we’re here to support you. Our collective knowledge and expertise are dedicated to making this trip the healthiest choice for your artistic practice.
Why we’re essential
If you’ve never travelled outside of the country, attended a festival of this scale, or been part of a group with such a strong creative drive, we understand it can be overwhelming. That’s why we’re here. We have a comprehensive plan in place to guide you through each step of this exciting journey. We want to provide close support regarding your visa, creating a catered orientation package on travel essentials. Want an artist’s guide to experiencing Prague and the surrounding areas? Or a mini Czech-language introductory course? Done. Want to learn more about each other or connect with the artists and other leaders at the PQ? We’ll organize and facilitate a PQ Talk at the festival and host a networking dinner because there are tons of people you will want to dine with. You are artists. We want you free to dream, grow, and network. Our programming is poised to do just that.
The Experience
You’re coming to Prague ready. You’ve got visas figured out, your phone plan prepared, you know where you’ll land and how to get to the accommodation that you’re excited to stay in (maybe because it looks beautiful, or you will be sharing it with your peers, or it’s in an interesting location). We’ve given you a short list of emergency contacts in case something goes wrong, but you don’t expect to use it. You’ve flipped through the Artist Guide to Prague that we’ve given you, you’ve read up about the city, and have a map where you’ve already marked some places. Maybe there are some local artists you’ve followed who have agreed to meet up with you, or you’re dying to visit a particular library.
The Canadian cohort will gather soon. There will be workshops, like a quick Czech language one, or one with tips on networking if you need it. You’re looking forwards to breaking into creative bubbles. Your artistic impulses are twitching. Your academic side has picked out a few interesting performances and PQ Talks, and is itching to peruse all the cool scenography books on display. You’ve got a journal (possibly virtual) to record thoughts and experiences, and your Instagram account ready to go.
